Using Excel has the following advantages:

• it is easier to rearrange and manage the data
• it is easier to sort and search through the data
• it is easier to print, and has much more flexible printing options

The disadvantages seem to be:

• not everybody may be able to open Excel files
• it is easier for somebody to reproduce the information without showing its original source
