December 2013 < Last Month | News Archive | Next Month > Closure of Jacksons 28-12-13 2pm on Christmas Eve saw the closure of Reading's long established traditional department store Jacksons. Founded in 1875, the family owned store started out as a gentlemen's outfitters at No 6 High Street, but changes to the layout of Kings Road in 1890 to allow the town's horse tram system a direct route into Broad Street led to the demolition of the adjoining units and the creation of Jackson's Corner. Still a key cross roads on the bus network, 1110 on route 17 passes 805 on route 6 at Jacksons Corner. Matching the store's colour scheme, 807 emerges from High Street on 24th. 225 outside the main entrance on Kings Road on 24th. A commemorative display in the shop window. < Last Month | News Archive | Next Month > |
